Quality Time
Thousands of watches costing four, five and even six figures
will be sold this holiday season even though they won't be any
more accurate than a good quartz watch selling for a hundred
dollars. Why do intelligent people do this? Glad you asked.
A Competiton in Elegance
Every year at the beginning of October, Orange County residents
get to see several hundred of the most exquisite classic automobiles
ever built. Each is lovingly restored and maintained by its
owner to seeming perfection (by everyone but the judges). This
amazing
display is called the ATSC Newport Coast Concours d'Elegance.
Dana's California
In 1834 a 19 year old Harvard student named Richard Henry Dana
shipped as a seaman aboard the brig Pilgrim for a two year voyage
to California. The book he wrote about his experiences, Two Years
Before The Mast, was an immediate best seller and in the century
and a half since has never been out of print. This classic description
of life about a merchantman in the first half of the 19th century
is also a classic description of California before it became a
part of the United States.
